New Maps of the West

Been awhile since any posts on the site, but we’ve been keeping busy. We’ve got some new tunes in rough form that we’ll put up on the site soon. Check back in a week or two, or better yet, become a fan on Facebook and I’ll send you a message when they’re up.

Hope you all had a great holiday and happy 2010! Some folks have been asking when we’re playing again. We don’t have anything lined up right now as we are focusing on doing some recording…putting more tracks online to download…and who knows, release an album or something. We’ve been reviewing over 50 (!) songs we’ve played over the last two years and are narrowing those down to the best of the bunch. We’ll post versions on the site as we work on ‘em. Here’s to a happy and productive new year!

Jaysus I don’t know what I’m doing… well I sort of do… but not really. It goes like this….We  have this thing in the front room here in Capp St which doubles as a studio/practice space and we have been figuring out how to get decent takes of  some of our many songs… We took some really fugly Pro Tools files down to Monte  Vallier @ Ruminator audio and he didn’t laugh too much… he cleaned ‘em up and we got some results. This time round it is/was proof of process (isn’t it always) we were looking for… and/but it seems like it’s going to work. The plan is from here we just keep at it… over and over and over until we get the takes and the versions we like. Kinda stressful and kinda fun and promising. We are looking forward to getting better at this game and we will be posting the stuff that we get . Check it out and by all means let us know what you think…

Aiden’s heading into Function 8 Studios today and tomorrow to work with Monte Vallier on some tracks we’ve been recording at the New Maps practice space. We’re all excited and curious to see how these will turn out! If all goes as planned, we’ll be posting on the website soon!

We welcomed Lincoln back on Thursday. He spent most of the summer working in the central valley of California, so we’ve been a four-piece for the last few gigs with Aiden filling in guitar solos with the harmonica. Looking forward to playing with the full band again starting this Sunday night at a private event at a winery in Calistoga, complete with fire dancers!

We’re launching a new website today! Still some work to do, but hope you like it.
