BIOGRAPHY
New Maps of the West are a culmination of times-past and futures-present genres of folk, blues and Americana, rung around with celtic and gypsy ghosts. The Band began and continues to grow within the confines of a narrow high-ceilinged room on Capp Street in San Francisco’s Mission district. Their sound is a record of a journey with no particular destination or point of departure. Haunted at times by the likes of Television, The Velvet Underground, Johnny and June Carter Cash, they are a combination of the familiar and novel… drawing from a variety of musical pasts while instinctively imbuing them with a confidence and authenticity that is entirely their own. Twin lead male and female vocals… searing and pure amplified Martin guitars… dynamic and engaging performances have spontaneously sprung spectators to their feet, making friends whenever they play. The band ventured into the studio in the Summer of 2008 and scratched-out/ recorded a five-song EP. In the City by the Bay in the far West of the Continental United States a journey has begun…
